Originally established at Rosebank Sunday Market as Soap for Africa in 1993, this family business has been revitalised under the leadership of Claire Stephenson, a seasoned wellness practitioner with over 25 years of experience. Now rebranded as AfriClarity, the company specialises in crafting Pure Glycerine Soaps for self-care, hospitality and corporate gifting.
AfriClarity offers a diverse range of Pure Glycerine Soaps available in various shapes and fragrances, along with Herbal Soaps and the highly acclaimed Bulbine Barrier Creams, known for their effectiveness in treating Eczema and Psoriasis. Claire has also expanded the product line to include Glycerine Shampoo Bars and Shea Butter Conditioning Bars; both made with pure Indigenous Oils and celebrated for their cult following.
Our Story
The elephant in our logo holds special significance. In 2018, I acquired Soap for Africa, drawn to the opportunity when the original family owners decided to retire to the UK. As a single mother, I sought a venture that would provide immediate income while allowing my body to rest from my demanding wellness practice. The logo’s colours are a blend of my son’s and my favourite shades, with orange being his choice, and we both share a love for elephants. Elephants symbolise power, wisdom, and inspiration across many cultures. I fondly recall watching a movie with my son Stuart, where mother elephants migrate across the desert, holding trunk to tail with their calves safely in between.
My vision was to make this business an inspiration to others while ensuring financial stability. The global lockdown in 2020 was transformative, prompting me to pivot the business to include both online and Market sales, and expand distribution to various Health Shops. This shift enabled business growth, allowing me to hire additional staff for soap production and participate in the occasional Market. Since August 2024, we have welcomed Thandaza to our team, who is part of the Claire2Clarity wellness group, offering exclusive treatments and on-site Chair Massage at the Bryanston Market and local corporate events.
In addition to our AfriClarity range, we also offer our complimentary Living Ayurveda self-care range. Living Ayurveda is designed to harmonise your daily routine with the wisdom of Ayurvedic practices. Each product is crafted with Essential Oils that promote balance and well-being. From nourishing Organic Moringa Oil and soothing Shea Butter Balm to revitalising Superior Epsom Salts, our collection supports a holistic approach to self-care.
